FAQs
What are the benefits of the DNA Core Test?
1
DNA Core is a genetic test designed to help you better understand how your individual genetic variations may influence important areas of your health.
The test explores genetic tendencies across biological health, nutrition, weight management, and exercise response, including areas such as lipid metabolism, methylation, inflammation, oxidative stress, detoxification, insulin sensitivity, nutrient response, metabolism, and physical performance.
Your personalized report helps translate this genetic information into practical nutrition and lifestyle considerations, giving you another layer of information for making more informed decisions about your health and healthy aging.
Is the at-home DNA test easy to complete?
2
Yes. DNA Core uses a simple finger-prick blood spot collection that you can complete at home.
Your collection kit includes instructions and the materials needed to collect a few drops of blood onto the provided collection card. Once complete, your sample is returned for laboratory analysis.
There is no traditional blood draw or laboratory appointment required.
What if I don't understand my DNA report?
3
Your DNA Core report is designed to explain your genetic findings and includes nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. However, genetics can be complex, and understanding which findings are most relevant to you can be challenging.
If you'd like professional interpretation, DNA Core Essentials includes a private 75-minute DNA Results & Strategy Consultation where we'll review your findings, identify your priorities, and discuss what they may mean in the context of your health and goals.
For those who want ongoing implementation support, DNA Core Personalized includes a personalized 90-day health plan and continued 1:1 guidance.
How accurate is DNA Core testing?
4
DNA Core uses laboratory genetic analysis to identify specific genetic variants in your DNA.
It's important, however, to distinguish between analytical accuracy and health interpretation.
Identifying which genetic variant you carry is different from predicting exactly how that variant will affect your health. Most health-related traits are influenced by multiple genes as well as nutrition, lifestyle, environment, age, and health history.
For this reason, DNA Core results are best understood as information about genetic tendencies and predispositions—not definitive predictions about your future health.
Can DNA testing help with weight management?
5
DNA can provide useful information about genetic factors associated with weight regulation, appetite, satiety, eating behaviour, carbohydrate and fat response, circadian tendencies, and exercise response.
This information may help you better understand why different approaches work differently for different people and can help inform a more individualized nutrition and movement strategy.
DNA is only one part of weight management, however. Sleep, stress, activity, food quality, health conditions, medications, hormones, environment, and other factors can also influence body composition and metabolic health.
No. DNA Core is not a diagnostic test, and having a genetic variant associated with increased susceptibility does not mean you have—or will develop—a particular disease.
Your health develops through a complex interaction between genetics, lifestyle, environment, age, and other factors.
Understanding genetic predispositions may help identify areas where being proactive about nutrition, movement, metabolic health, and other modifiable lifestyle factors could be particularly relevant.
Your genes influence your biology, but they do not determine your destiny.
Can DNA testing tell me whether I'm going to develop a disease?
6
Yes. We recognize that genetic information is highly personal and treat its confidentiality accordingly.
Age Free Health is HIPAA compliant, and your personal health information and genetic test results are handled using appropriate privacy and security safeguards.
Your DNA sample and genetic data are processed by DNAlife and its laboratory partners according to their respective privacy, data-protection, and laboratory procedures.
Age Free Health does not sell your genetic or personal health information or use it for advertising purposes.
Your genetic information is used only as necessary to provide the services you have requested.
Is my DNA and health information private and secure?
7
DNA Core has a different purpose.
Consumer DNA services are often known for ancestry, family connections, traits, and other consumer genetic information. DNA Core is specifically focused on health-related genetic variations that can inform nutrition and lifestyle decisions.
It examines genetic pathways related to areas such as metabolism, inflammation, methylation, detoxification, nutrient response, weight management, exercise, and recovery.
The objective isn't to tell you where your ancestors came from.
It's to help you better understand how your individual biology may influence the way you eat, move, live, and age.
How is DNA Core different from Ancestry or 23andMe?
8
Not all genetic tests are designed to answer the same questions.
DNA Core is specifically designed around genetic variants with potential relevance to nutrition, lifestyle, metabolic health, and exercise, with results organized into actionable health pathways rather than simply providing raw genetic data.
Depending on the Age Free Health option you choose, you can also add professional interpretation and personalized implementation support.
And unlike many health measurements that change over time, your inherited DNA remains essentially the same throughout your life.
You test once, but the information can continue to provide context as your health priorities evolve.
All three options include the same DNA Core genetic test. What changes is the level of interpretation and support.
